The classic 'what did you do yesterday' format has served its purpose. Here are five better formats that reveal what's actually slowing your team down.
The three-question status format was a great starting point a couple of decades ago. It's a mediocre finish line today.
When your daily check-in feels like a status report to the manager, that's a signal — not a failure. Try walking the current work right-to-left (starting with what's closest to done), or start with your team's top priority and ask, 'What's the biggest threat to it today?'
The goal isn't a script. It's a shared, honest read on where the work stands. Any format that gets your team there faster is the right one.
